Please note:  

Information submitted by an applicant as a part of the application and nomination process should be considered public and may be requested as information responsive to the Texas Public Information Act.  

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

All CAC applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be residents of either the city of Austin or CapMetro’s Service Area;
  • Not be a person who is registered or required to register as a lobbyist under City Code Chapter 4-8 or who is employed by a person registered or required to register under City Code Chapter 4-8.
  • Not be an employee of the City of Austin, CapMetro, or ATP;
  • Not have a contract for real property, goods, or services with the City of Austin, CapMetro or ATP, or be employed by such a contractor; and,
  • Shall abide by the ATP Ethics, Conflicts and Nondisclosure Policy (PDF), as amended.

Community members with personal, professional, or lived experiences that have contributed to meeting the needs of people experiencing homelessness, mobility justice, the advancement of criminal justice reform, housing and land-use policy, workforce/labor policy, and increasing economic or other opportunities for underserved transit users should apply.

PROCESS and TIMELINE

  • The application period will be open from Monday, September 15 through Wednesday, October 15 at 5 p.m. CDT.
  • Completed applications that meet the eligibility criteria will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee.
  • The Nominating Committee is composed of representatives of the Austin Transit Partnership Board, CapMetro Board, Austin City Council, and CAC.
  • The Nominating Committee may opt to conduct interviews and will provide its appointment recommendations to the Austin Transit Partnership Board, CapMetro Board, and City Council for their respective Board and Council meetings in 2025.
  • The first meeting with the new CAC members is anticipated to be conducted in January 2026.

The 2025 Nominating Committee will consist of the following representatives, or their designee:

  • City Council Member Paige Ellis, Chair of the City’s Mobility Committee
  • CapMetro Board Member Chito Vela, Chair of the CapMetro Operations, Planning and Safety Committee
  • ATP Board Member Kammy Horne, Community Expert for Planning & Sustainability
  • CAC Chair Awais Azhar

The following are examples of the topics on which the CAC may advise:

  • Transit-supportive anti-displacement tools and strategies the city should deploy
  • Community involvement and communications during Project Connect delivery
  • Creation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to equity
  • Other related topics that align with the mission of the CAC
  • All new CAC member terms will be four years.
  • Staff anticipates hosting monthly public meetings that may be up to two hours long.
  • CAC members may opt to serve on smaller workgroups throughout their term.
